What is District 09?
District 09 is a district within Mid-Southern California Area 09, which is part of the General Service structure of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Our district serves as a vital link between individual A.A. groups and the broader service structure. We coordinate local outreach efforts, support standing committees, and help ensure that A.A. remains available to anyone, anywhere, who seeks it.
Whether you're a newcomer, a longtime member, or an A.A. group looking to get more involved, District 09 is here to support you in service, recovery, and unity.

I AM RESPONSIBLE. When anyone, anywhere reaches out for help, I want the hand of A.A. always to be there. And for that: I am responsible.

A.A. Preamble
A short definition of A.A.’s main purpose. Originally written by Grapevine editors in 1947 with updates by the Conference.
Alcoholics Anonymous® is a fellowship of people who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.
The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution, does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety.
G.S.R. Preamble
The G.S.R. Preamble was originally written by Goldene L. in Southern California. The GSR Preamble, as used today, was printed in the May 1988 newsletter of the Central Intergroup Office in the Desert in Palm Springs, CA.
We are the General Service Representatives.
We are the link in the chain of communication for our groups with the General Service Conference and the work of A.A.
We realize the ultimate authority is a loving God as he may express Himself in our Group Conscience.
As trusted servants, our job is to bring information to our groups in order that they can reach an informed group conscience.
In passing along this group conscience, we are helping to maintain the unity and strength so vital to our fellowship.
Let us, therefore, have the patience and tolerance to listen while other share, the courage to speak up when we have something to share, AND the wisdom to do what is right for our group and A.A. as a whole.
A.A.’s Responsibility Statement
The responsibility statement for AA was written by Al S., a former A.A. trustee and Grapevine editor. It was introduced at the 1965 International Convention in Toronto.
I AM RESPONSIBLE. When anyone, anywhere reaches out for help, I want the hand of A.A. always to be there. And for that: I am responsible.
A Declaration of Unity
Written by Al S., a former A.A. trustee and consultant, the Declaration of Unity was developed for the 1970 International Convention.
This we owe to A.A.’s future: To place our common welfare first; To keep our fellowship united. For on A.A. unity depend our lives, And the lives of those to come.
